The 'Love For The Colours' campaign painted the LigaF pitches

During the Matchday 20 and 21 fixtures, Liga F pitches were adorned with rainbow colours for the 'Amor Por Los Colores' campaign, to mark the International Day Against LGTBIfobia in Sport on 19 February. The Basque derby, the Madrid derby, and the match at Los Cármenes were the most prominent fixtures.

Once again, LigaF launched its ‘Love For The Colours’ campaign, marking the International Day Against Homophobia in Sport, which was celebrated last Thursday, February 19th. This initiative aims to raise societal awareness about the importance of social inclusion, respect, and diversity in all areas of sport, specifically to denounce the various situations of rejection, discrimination, and even violence suffered by LGBTIQ+ individuals. This season, the action took place over two consecutive weekends. The stadiums for Matchday 20 (February 14-15) and Matchday 21 (February 21-22) were dyed the colours of the rainbow flag, which also played a leading role across LigaF’s main communication platforms: television, website, and social media, amplifying the message and reaching an ever-wider audience.

Furthermore, thousands of laces featuring the rainbow flag colours were distributed among players, technical staff, coaches, referees, media representatives, and fans who attended the matches over both weekends. The campaign also benefited from the significant platform of the Basque derby between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad, and the Madrid derby between Atlético de Madrid and Madrid CFF during Matchday 20, where the players threw laces into the stands at the end of the game. During that weekend, the team captains also wore rainbow armbands. For Matchday 21, the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium, which welcomed 5,100 spectators, became a magnificent stage for this initiative. A Volkswagen car customised with the rainbow colours drove onto the pitch carrying the match ball.

That was not the only initiative at the Nazarí club's historic stadium. One of the seats at Los Cármenes was customised with the colours of the rainbow flag. The young girl who sat in that seat received the campaign shirt. An exclusive piece created by the Madrid-based illustrator, muralist, and painter Be Fernández. The shirt, which combines the initiative's colours, depicts two women alongside a ball and a football boot, representing the unity, diversity, and collective strength that drives women's football. Additionally, during that weekend's fixtures, the captains of both teams exchanged PANINI stickers customised for the event. With this initiative, LigaF has used football as a tool for unity, education, and the eradication of all forms of discrimination in society.
