Laia and Carla Abdón at the end of a Liga F Moeve match.

The dream come true for the Abdón twins at FC Badalona Femení

The two footballers have debuted this season in Liga F with the Catalan side. Laia Abdón, a defender, made her debut in the top flight with two matches played and wearing the number 29 jersey, while her twin sister Carla Abdón has played five games with the number 26 on her back.

An unforgettable year. That is what Laia Abdón (Barcelona, 22 February 2007) and her twin sister, Carla Abdón (Barcelona, 22 February 2007), have experienced. At 19 years old, both players have fulfilled their childhood dream: making their debut in the top flight. FC Badalona Women have had a fantastic season, finishing in 10th place in Liga F Moeve with 36 points and reaching a historic Copa de la Reina semi-final. The youth academy has played a major role, and Marc Ballester has not hesitated to field up to seven players registered with the reserve team, three of whom made their elite debuts. Among these players are the Abdón sisters. Curiously, both players made their Primera División bow on the same day.

Specifically, on 22 March 2026, in the victory against Sevilla FC (1-5), corresponding to Matchday 23. "We didn't expect to make our debuts at the same time," recounts Carla Abdón. The goalkeeper had already played three days earlier, in the second leg of the Copa de la Reina semi-final against FC Barcelona (4-1). Despite the elimination from the knockout competition, the goalkeeper made six impressive saves to begin making her mark at the elite level. The goalkeeper did know she was going to play that day. "I did know I was starting. I'm very happy to have done it alongside my sister. Debuting together and taking the three points—what more could you ask for?" says the Catalan team's goalkeeper. For her part, her twin, Laia Abdón, made her debut replacing Celya Barclais with just two minutes left on the clock.

"I didn't know if I would get the opportunity to debut. In the end, it came, and I'm very happy," confesses the defender, who gained more minutes on the following matchday in the victory against Alhama CF ElPozo (3-2). In total, the defender has played 9 minutes across 2 matches. For her part, Carla Abdón featured for another four matchdays, taking advantage of injuries to the other two goalkeepers, María Valenzuela and Antonia Canales. The goalkeeper has accumulated 450 minutes in 5 matches, during which she made 18 saves (3.6 per match) and was once named MVP of the match, always with her sister supporting her. "We have a large family, many friends, and we are all super proud of her, that she was given the opportunity," says Laia Abdón, who will play in the U19 European Championship this summer.

It is an event where she will represent Spain alongside her teammate Nerea Carmona, and it will be her sister Carla Abdón supporting from the sidelines. "We started in the school playground together; during my brother's matches, we would go out at half-time with a ball, she would play as goalkeeper and I as an outfield player," recounts Laia Abdón, to which her sister quickly adds the journey they have taken to reach the elite level. "Our first club was FC Martinenc. Then came Espanyol, where we spent five years, and then FC Badalona Women. We have been lucky that they have always wanted us together. The day we have to separate, we will," her sister adds. For the moment, however, the two have always been together, and this year they have made their dreams come true.
