The history of FC Barcelona cannot be understood without the figure of Alexia Putellas (Mollet del Vallés, 4 February 1994). Developed in the youth ranks of CE Sabadell FC, FC Barcelona, and RCD Espanyol, the midfielder became part of the first team of the Catalan club in the 2010/2011 season. After a year with the Pericos, she spent a season at Levante UD, before returning to the Blaugrana in the 2012/2013 season, where she became indispensable, leading the Catalan side to the top and being the leader of a legendary team. With her in the squad, the Blaugranas have won a total of 38 trophies. The Mollet del Vallés native's honours include 10 league titles, 11 Copa de la Reina, 6 Supercopas de España, 4 UEFA Women's Champions League, and 7 Catalan Cups, making her the footballer with the most titles in the club's history across all professional categories.
A Spanish football legend who announces her departure from FC Barcelona after 14 seasons. “Culés, I remember the first time I heard you. I was six years old and it was the first time I went to the Camp Nou with my father. At that moment, I only saw men playing in the stadium, and it never crossed my mind that one day more than 90,000 Culés would chant my name,” the player begins in an emotional video on her social media. A decision that was not easy to make. “I always said I wanted my final moments to be at the highest possible level,” explains the Blaugrana captain. Alexia departs after achieving her second quadruple of titles with the Catalan club following the one secured in the 2023/2024 season, but above all, leaving an indelible mark on Liga F, and becoming a role model for all those girls who dream of one day playing professional football.
“I have no words to describe everything I have experienced with my teammates. Those who paved the way, and those who have arrived since to write this eternal legacy together. To those who come after, the pressure of wearing this shirt is a privilege,” acknowledges the midfielder. In addition to her magnificent trophy haul with her club, Alexia is also making history with the Spanish national team, with whom she debuted in 2013, in a match prior to the Sweden European Championship against Denmark. Her honours with La Roja include the historic 2023 World Cup, the 2024 and 2025 Nations Leagues, and the U17 European Championships in 2010 and 2011. On an individual level, the midfielder can boast of having won two Ballon d'Or awards, being the first Spanish footballer to achieve this, as well as two The Best awards and another two UEFA Player of the Year awards. Thank you Alexia for all these years!
