Both teams took to the Lezama pitch with the aim of securing all three points. Four minutes into the game, a fine pass from Ona Baradad was finished by Iara Lacosta from inside the area to open the scoring. The blue and white players celebrated with a hug involving the entire bench, including Sara Monforte. Athletic Club attempted to score from a set-piece, but Romane Salvador decisively saved the action. At the other end, Iara Lacosta tried her luck, but the forward's shot struck the home defence. Eunate Astralaga also diverted a powerful strike from Paula Gutiérrez from inside the area to a corner. Just past the half-hour mark, the Bilbao side equalised. Maite Valero executed a backheel flick to get past her defender and connected with Ane Azkona from inside the box. The forward from Navarre made no mistake to level the match.

At the other end, Anita Marcos threatened, but the forward could not get past her defender from inside the area. Meanwhile, the last significant action of the first half fell to Maitane Vilariño, but her shot hit Romane Salvador, who saved it with her knee. Although the referee disallowed the goal for offside by the Basque team's player. After the break, Jone Amezaga, who was the MVP of the duel, came on to create more attacking chances, but it was RCD Espanyol who eventually found the opposition net. A cross from the wing was met by Lucía Vallejo from the second post. The full-back made no mistake, sending the ball directly into the back of the net to put the Periquitas back in front. The visitors could have found a second goal, but Anita Marcos was denied by the home goalkeeper's reaction.

At the other end, Clara Pinedo threatened with a direct free-kick, but Romane Salvador and the defence combined to clear the danger. Víctor Martín brought on Nerea Benito, Ane Campos, and Sara Ortega in search of an equaliser. Meanwhile, Ana Velázquez, Natalia Escot, and Clara Rodríguez entered for the visitors. Ona Baradad tried a cross that Astralaga gathered. The decisive goal was on Clara Rodríguez's feet, but the ball went high. With eight minutes remaining, the referee signalled a penalty for a foul by Clara Rodríguez on Ane Campos. Clara Pinedo stepped up to take the penalty, but Romane Salvador saved it. A play later, Júlia Guerra was sent off for a challenge on Nerea Benito. And, Maddi Torre rescued a point for the Basque club with a header from inside the area following a free-kick from wide. Romane Salvador and the crossbar kept the final score level.
