Sofía Fuente, the goalkeeper who wants to establish herself in the elite with Alavés
The goalkeeper, who came through the youth ranks at Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF, was the lowest-conceding goalkeeper last season with Deportivo Alavés in Primera RFEF. This campaign, she has already racked up seven saves and conceded just one goal on her top-flight debut following the opening two matchdays.

A lifetime connected to the goal. Sofía Fuente's (Madrid, 14 March 2005) childhood has always been tied to a ball, though unlike other girls, she always preferred to between the sticks. Her first role model was her brother Álvaro, followed by Iker Casillas. She started out playing futsal at school, and later 7-a-side football with her local neighbourhood club, Villaverde Bajo. Always playing with boys until, at the age of 9, she joined the Atlético de Madrid youth academy. Six seasons with the rojiblanco side, where she progressed through the ranks, wanting to be like Lola Gallardo. At 15, she joined Real Madrid CF, where she was the goalkeeper for the reserve team and the third-choice goalkeeper for the senior side, learning day in, day out from Misa. Although she was in a comfortable position, she wanted to play.
In the 2023/2024 season, the goalkeeper stepped out of her comfort zone and moved on loan to Deportivo Alavés in the Primera RFEF, looking for the minutes she needed to reach the senior Whites squad, although the following year she had to settle for playing in the reserve team. A lack of opportunities led to another departure for the babazorro side, but this time on a permanent basis. The Vitoria-based club backed the goalkeeper in the summer of 2025 despite her carrying an injury, and the shot-stopper responded in style. Las Gloriosas achieved promotion, with Sofía Fuente proving pivotal by keeping 13 clean sheets – the most in the competition – conceding just 13 goals in 23 matchdays, an average of 0.56 goals conceded per match. The goalkeeper was ready for the elite.
A fibula fracture prevented her from being in goal for the fixture that confirmed her team's promotion, but that injury was not enough to stop the Madrid-born player from making her debut in the top flight. The babazorro club signed Somea Polozen to create competition between the posts, but Sofía Fuente, wearing the number '1' shirt, shone in the 2-0 victory against Valencia CF at Mendizorroza. A triumph in which the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet and made a crucial save, displaying absolute security under the crossbar. This past weekend she once again left her mark in the top division with six saves, many of them of high quality, demonstrating her fantastic reflexes. Although the goalkeeper could not prevent the 1-0 defeat against Atlético de Madrid, who scored late on.
Furthermore, four of the seven saves she has made across these opening two matchdays have come from shots inside the penalty area. The goalkeeper also stands out for her good distribution with a 43% accuracy rate, proving key in building out from the back. Despite being only 21 years old, the shot-stopper carries herself with the authority of a veteran, and already knows what it is like to face high-pressure situations and win major tournaments. With the Spain national team, she was crowned U17 World Cup champion in 2022 and U19 European champion in 2023. In addition, the goalkeeper balances elite sport with a degree in Psychology, which gives her a mental resilience that she then reflects on the pitch with Deportivo Alavés. A newly promoted side to Liga F Moeve, which, just like Sofía Fuente, wants to establish itself in the top flight.
