The Basque side took to the pitch at Lezama with the clear intention of claiming all three points. The first major chance of the match fell to Daniela Agote. The winger tried her luck with a long-range effort that crashed straight against the woodwork. Ane Elexpuru also threatened with a shot that flew over the bar, while Ane Azkona tested her luck with a timid effort from the edge of the box that went straight into the hands of a secure Alice Pinguet, who safely gathered the ball to snuff out the danger. The response came from Yasmin Mrabet, with a thunderous long-range strike that rattled the woodwork to the relief of Nanclares. Twenty minutes into the match, Garazi Facila unleashed a powerful drive that sailed wide of the target.
Athletic Club's siege continued, and Sara Ortega tested Alice Pinguet once again with a direct free-kick that the visiting goalkeeper comfortably claimed. Meanwhile, Valencia CF sought to create danger through Sara Tamarit's surging runs down the right flank. At the other end, Nazareth Martín cut out an effort from Ane Azkona inside the area to avert the danger. Mikel Crespo's side tried to find Noa Marchena leading the line, but Nanclares rushed out to claim the ball with minimal fuss. Lucía Moral 'WIFI' also tried her luck in the visitors' attack, but despite efforts from both sides, the scoreline remained deadlocked: 0-0 at half-time.

After the break, Mikel Crespo made the first change of the match, bringing on Rebecca Elloh to bolster the attack. The Ivory Coast forward immediately looked dangerous in a one-on-one against Maddi Torre, but the centre-back defended resolutely to halt her progress. At the other end, Maite Valero went close with a header from a corner kick. Sara Ortega continued to be a threat across the forward line. Indeed, the player from La Rioja, who was named MVP of the match, unleashed a powerful strike half an hour into the second half that hit the post and bounced in off Alice Pinguet before ending up in the back of the net. Despite taking the lead, Víctor Martín wanted no complacency from his side and introduced Jone Amezaga, Nerea Benito, and Clara Pinedo to inject fresh energy into the Bilbao side and protect their advantage.
For their part, the visitors pushed for an equaliser with a shot from Danielle Marcano that was safely gathered by Nanclares. Furthermore, Tere Morató, Carol Marín, and Marta Mascarell entered the pitch in search of a late goal. The visitors dominated possession, but Athletic Club could have sealed the victory on the counter-attack. Jone Amezaga, after a brilliant piece of skill to beat her marker, found herself one-on-one with Alice Pinguet, who denied her with a magnificent save. Meanwhile, Nazareth Martín tried her luck with a header at the other end, and Nanclares was called upon to gather a fine strike from Pauleta Sancho. Once again, Alice Pinguet denied Jone Amezaga, and in the dying moments of the match, Camila Saez was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the Valencia side still searching for their first points of the season.
