The league championship pauses for two weeks for the final international break of the season. Upon the return, the sixteen clubs of Liga F Moeve will look to secure their objectives over the remaining five matchdays. FC Barcelona, who could be crowned league champions on Wednesday, 22 April at 19:00h against RCD Espanyol, will also be fighting to reach the UEFA Women's Champions League final. Furthermore, the Catalan side will face Atlético de Madrid on Saturday, 16 May at 20:00h in the Copa de la Reina final. The final sprint of the season will also see Real Madrid CF and Real Sociedad battle to maintain their Champions League qualification spots, alongside a four-team fight to avoid relegation.
The league title and the race for the Champions League
The azulgranas have their eleventh league title within reach. If Pere Romeu’s side beat RCD Espanyol on Wednesday, 22 April at 19:00h, they will be crowned champions. Meanwhile, Real Madrid CF, currently second with 59 points, and Real Sociedad, third with 54 points, are closing in on a place in next season's Champions League. The madridistas only need one more victory, while the Basque side holds an eight-point cushion over Costa Adeje Tenerife, who are enjoying a magnificent season with only three defeats and the fewest goals conceded (16). Ten points behind the donostiarras are Atlético de Madrid, and thirteen behind them is Granada CF, the second-best team of the second half of the season.
Tight competition in the middle of the table
One of the great characteristics of the competition is the parity in mid-table. Sevilla FC, who head into the break on the back of three consecutive defeats, sit in 7th place with 39 points. Four points below them is Athletic Club, who are aiming to finish in the top eight, a goal also shared by FC Badalona Women (32 points) and Madrid CFF (31 points). The Catalan side suffered a three-point deduction for failing to provide a doctor for away matches, while the Madrid club has only won two matches since Sánchez Vera took charge. With safety already secured and the ambition to finish as high as possible, RCD Espanyol and Deportivo Abanca are looking to build on their campaigns. Both were promoted together and will both be playing their third consecutive season in the top flight.
Four teams fighting to avoid relegation
With five matchdays remaining, four teams are fighting to maintain their status in the division. The side in the best position is SD Eibar. The armeras, who are on a ten-match winless streak, have a nine-point cushion above the relegation zone, although they still have to face the three teams below them. With 14 points, five clear of the drop, is DUX Logroño, who have found some breathing room with a draw and a win in their last two matches. In the relegation spots are Alhama CF ElPozo, with 9 points, who have not won since 5 October, and Levante UD, bottom of the table with 8 points, who will also face the three teams at the bottom. Plenty of direct duels lie ahead to decide which two teams will remain in the elite.
