Fatou Kanteh conquers Riazor on opening weekend

A debut day for the new Deportivo Abanca at the Riazor stadium. The first chance came from a Raquel Morcillo shot, which a confident Andrea Tarazona gathered in two attempts. The Andalusian side had the second opportunity with a Xenia Barrios shot that went over the bar. David Losada's team stuck to their game, and Laura Pérez tried a high shot. Their persistence paid off, and in the twelfth minute, Laura Pérez delivered a cross into the heart of the box, which Fatou Kanteh headed in to score the first goal of the season in Liga F Moeve. The Galician side looked for a response through Lucía Rivas, and with an acrobatic effort from Esperanza Pizarro that went high. Lucía Pardo also tried her luck with a shot that grazed the crossbar.
Just after the hour mark, Olaya Rodríguez tried her luck with a long-range strike from outside the box, but the local midfielder's shot missed the target and went wide. Indeed, the Asturian player had a clear opportunity with a shot from inside the area, which Esther Sullastres crucially saved to prevent a goal. The goalkeeper, who was the MVP of the match, also caught a header from Lucía Pardo to ensure her team had the lead at half-time. After the restart, Michi Apóstol came on for the home side to add more attacking depth. In the second half, the crossbar denied Gemma Gili a goal, while Xenia Barrios looked for her team's second goal with a shot that went well wide.
