Following the Champions League preliminary first leg, Real Sociedad took to Zubieta with Iraia Soroa as a new addition at the heart of the defence. The San Sebastián club started better with the ball, looking to dominate possession. The first major chance of the match fell to María Barquero, but her shot went over the crossbar. The Rioja side attacked, but Esther Laborde was very alert to cut out a dangerous move. The clearest opportunity came to Isina, but the ball went over Julia Arrula's goal. Twenty minutes into the game, Ava Seelenfreund was close to making her debut for her new team, but her effort went wide. María Miralles also showed great awareness to catch a shot from Nerea Eizagirre from the edge of the box.

Indeed, the Rioja club's goalkeeper was also very alert to deal with a good attack from the home side. At the other end, Julia Arrula stood tall to save a shot from Rebeca from inside the box, and in the same play, Falfán tried a free-kick shot that went high, keeping the score goalless: 0-0 at the end of the first forty-five minutes. In the second half, Real Sociedad tried with an effort from Nerea Eizagirre that Miralles caught without much trouble. The clearest chance came around the hour mark. A great cross from Intza was met by Moraza with full intent, but the full-back's shot crashed directly against the woodwork under the watchful eye of Miralles, who saw the crossbar deny the first goal of the match at Zubieta.
Both teams made substitutions in search of a goal. Arola Aparicio and Paula Fernández came on for the home side, while Flavine Mawete did the same for the Rioja side. The match was incredibly even at Zubieta, with neither team managing to break the deadlock. A draw that was finally broken with fifteen minutes left to play. Isina saw the run of Catalina Ongaro, who delivered a pass to the far post for Mawete, who was the MVP of the clash, to put the ball straight into the back of the net, making it 0-1 on the scoreboard. A goal that forced the San Sebastián side to push for an equaliser with Ainhoa Marín looking to get past her opponents, though without getting past the opposition defence. Quite the opposite for Cristina Redondo, who sealed the match at Zubieta on the counter-attack.
