Wembley challenges Spain in the fight for top spot

Wembley Stadium will open its doors for a clash between two of the world's best national teams. La Roja leads the FIFA rankings, while England sits in fourth place. Sonia Bermúdez’s side arrives following victories over Iceland (3-0) and Ukraine (1-3) in the first two matchdays. For this April international break, the coach from Vallecas has called up 25 players, featuring the exciting addition of Clara Pinedo. “We know her from the youth categories. She joined the U23s and impressed us greatly. Within the youth setup, she is a different profile; she understands the game, attacks the spaces, is always committed, and we are delighted to have her on the list,” the head coach said of the Athletic Club midfielder. Meanwhile, Esther González, Mapi León, Irene Paredes, and Cata Coll have also returned to the squad.

England also arrives after beating Ukraine (1-6) and Iceland (2-0) in their first two matchdays, though Sarina Wiegman’s side occupies the top spot due to a superior goal difference. In addition to meeting in the Nations League group stage, the two sides also faced off in the World Cup final, with a Spanish win (1-0), and in the final of the last European Championship, with England winning on penalties 1(3)-1(1).
