The Spanish national team has begun its training camp to face the two matches in the 2027 World Cup qualifying phase. La Roja will face England on Tuesday, April 14th at 20:00 BST at Wembley, and Ukraine on Saturday, April 18th at 16:00 BST at the Nuevo Arcángel stadium (Córdoba).

After announcing the squad list for the third and fourth matchdays of the 2027 World Cup qualifying phase, the Spanish national team has gathered to prepare for both fixtures as the leaders of the FIFA rankings. “Great importance is placed on the ranking, but that doesn’t mean you have to win everything. We are having a great season of play. We won the Nations League, but now a new objective begins,” explained Sonia Bermúdez in a press conference. The first of those two duels will be against England on Tuesday, 14 April, at 20:00 BST at Wembley Stadium. Both teams have won the two matches they have played, although Spain sits top of the group due to a superior overall goal difference.

“Mentally, the match will demand a lot from you. The team is more than motivated and knows what is at stake. The setting is inviting, but the atmosphere shouldn't weigh on them mentally; they are prepared to face it. We want to see a very beautiful match, and for us to win,” the head coach continued regarding the duel against the English side, fourth in the FIFA rankings. The two teams know each other very well. They faced each other in the 2023 World Cup final, where La Roja won 1-0, and in the final of the last European Championship, where Sarina Wiegman's side took revenge by winning on penalties 1(3)-1(1). The clash will be decisive for maintaining the top spot, which provides direct access to the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the second match of this international break will take place at the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel (Córdoba) on Saturday, 18 April, at 16:00 BST. The city of Córdoba will be dressed in its finest to welcome Spain for their clash against Ukraine, who have yet to win a match in this qualifying phase. Notably, La Roja already won 1-3 in the first leg. Under the slogan 'Córdoba blooms', the national team will look to continue their steady progress towards the World Cup, where they will defend their crown. “What happened in the past doesn't count for the present; ultimately, we base our decisions on performance. We believe these are players who are performing at a high level, and that is why they are on the list,” concluded the Vallecas-born coach.
