After winning the Ballon d'Or in 2021 and 2022, Alexia Putellas has once again made history. The player from Mollet del Vallés takes the baton from Aitana Bonmatí to secure her third Ballon d'Or, ensuring Spanish football has now won this award for six consecutive years, thanks to her stellar year at FC Barcelona, where she bid farewell this summer to head to London City. As a Blaugrana, she played 14 seasons, amassing 38 titles, making her the footballer with the most trophies in the history of the Catalan club across all professional categories. In her final year, she scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 43 matches. “Thank you very much. It’s a pleasure to be here. The fact that so many Barcelona players are nominated says a lot about the season we managed to have,” she began.
The midfielder did not hesitate to praise her former teammates. “It was a pleasure to play with you all. As a team, we overcame many difficulties, and for me, it was a magnificent honour to be your captain. Thanks to Pere Romeu, the staff, and all the club's employees, as well as thanks to my mother and my family,” stated Alexia Putellas, who wanted to leave a message of gratitude to her fanbase. “Thank you to the fans for these 14 years, and to the president and the board of directors,” said the midfielder, who also became a champion of the Nations League with the Spanish national team, with whom she qualified to compete in the 2027 Brazil World Cup. This will be the next major objective for a Spanish footballer who, once again, has managed to make history.
Liga F Moeve also shines in other awards
In addition to the Ballon d'Or, the other awards of the night also featured Spanish presence. FC Barcelona, who won all four titles: Liga F Moeve, the UEFA Women's Champions League, Copa de la Reina, and Supercopa de España, was named the best club in the world. The Blaugranas won 44 out of the 48 matches they played across all competitions, scoring 193 goals. In the domestic league, the Catalan side only lost one match. Numbers to reign the world. Vicky López revalidated the Kopa Trophy for the best young talent of the year. The player from Vallecas scored 12 goals in 45 matches across all competitions to take home the trophy, beating her teammate Clara Serrajordi, and Real Madrid's Felicia Schröder, who came very close.
“Mum, even though you are no longer by my side, I feel you in every step I take, and everything I am achieving is yours,” the midfielder highlighted through tears. The award for the best goalkeeper of the year also had a Spanish flavour. Cata Coll won the Yashin Trophy after a brilliant year in which she was key to the four titles, playing 32 matches and keeping 18 clean sheets. Meanwhile, Pere Romeu took home the award for best coach of the season. “I feel this award as a collective, for having fantastic players who try to improve every day to continue achieving great successes. Thanks also to my staff,” expressed the coach. These awards highlight the excellent work of Liga F Moeve, and specifically FC Barcelona, for all of Spanish football.
