A new era begins for the Spanish national team. With a renewed squad, and a firm commitment to young talent, La Roja begins its journey in the qualifying phase for the 2027 World Cup, which will be held in Brazil. A list that brought the new additions of Misa Rodríguez and Enith Salón in goal. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad's full-back, Aiara Agirrezabala, makes her debut with the senior team, as does Madrid CFF's centre-back, Sandra Villafañe. Defender Martina Fernández and forward Ornella Vignola also feature in the squad. In total, the representation of players currently playing in Liga F amounts to 15 players spread across six different clubs: FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Atlético de Madrid, Madrid CFF, Real Sociedad, and Athletic Club.

Facing them will be a Nordic side that boasts a 'Spaniard' in its ranks, Madrid CFF midfielder Hildur Antonsdóttir, who this season has already accumulated 1,565 minutes across twenty-one league matchdays, in which she has scored two goals and provided four assists. Both teams have met on five occasions throughout their history, with one victory for Spain, one for Iceland, and three draws. The first time the two countries faced each other was on May 31, 1998, in a qualifying match for the following year's World Cup which ended in a draw (0-0). Curiously, the same result as in the last encounter between the two nations, on March 6, 2017, in the Algarve Cup group stage, in a duel that ended in a goalless draw (0-0). La Roja will play again on Saturday, March 7, at 18:00h against Ukraine in Antalya (Turkey).
