The Roja players took to the pitch with a shirt in support of goalkeeper Enith Salón, who suffered an ACL injury. In the early stages of the match, the Spanish national team pressed high up the pitch, attempting to disrupt the English team's build-up play. Lauren James showed intent for the visitors, while the first real chance of the game fell to Alexia Putellas, but the double Ballon d'Or winner's header went wide. A few minutes later, Edna Imade came close to connecting with a cross into the box, but Hampton gathered the ball. Mariona also tried her luck with a shot that went off target. Keira Walsh attempted a long-range effort that sailed over. At eighteen minutes, Patri Guijarro unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the area to break the deadlock. The second chance came from an Edna Imade header, which was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.
Alexia Putellas also had opportunities. First with a shot that went high, and then with an effort that went directly into the hands of the English goalkeeper, who held onto the ball. Just past the half-hour mark, Vicky López showcased a brilliant individual run, but couldn't find the target. And, just a few minutes later, Edna played a pass to Mariona, who then set up Alexia, doubling the lead to make it 2-0 at the end of the first forty-five minutes. In the second half, Sonia Bermúdez's side came out looking for a third goal. La Roja maintained control of the game, facing barely any goal-scoring threats. The English team did, however, muster a powerful long-range shot that went well wide. The third goal wasn't far behind. A shot from Alexia was cleared off the line by Lucy Bronze.
The rebound hit the post, and then fell to Alexia Putellas, who scored her second of the match with a superb finish from inside the area to extend the lead on the scoreboard. Edna Imade tried to join Spain's goal-scoring party with an effort that went over the crossbar. The woodwork then denied Patri Guijarro a goal, after a powerful header. The definitive 4-0 was scored by Claudia Pina, who capitalised on a brilliant pass from Aitana Bonmatí to collect the ball, cut inside the box, and unleash a right-footed strike from within the area to seal the match at Son Moix. La Roja, who have reclaimed top spot in Group C, will conclude their final international break of the season on Tuesday, June 9th at 21:00h, visiting Iceland at Laugardalsvöllur to confirm their first-place finish and secure their ticket to the 2027 World Cup.
