Both teams took to the pitch eager to claim all three points, although Madrid CFF were pressing the opposition's build-up play. The first chance of the match came from an Allegra Poljak cross, which Anita Marcos was very close to converting from inside the box. The striker was central to the action after seven minutes. Allegra Poljak spotted Kamilla Melgard's run down the wing. The Norwegian attacker delivered a ball to the near post, which Anita Marcos headed in, getting ahead of the Espanyol goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Meanwhile, RCD Espanyol tried their luck with a cross that Browne headed timidly, but the ball went straight into the hands of a confident Paola Ulloa, who gathered it. Naima García also tried her luck with a shot that went wide.

The visitors tried, and the post denied a cross-shot from Anna Torrodà, who tried her luck from outside the box. The Espanyol persistence paid off in the 26th minute. Again, Anna Torrodà threaded a ball through for Ona Baradad to set up Browne, who only had to tap the ball into the back of the net. The striker had her brace a few minutes later, with a shot that hit the post directly. At the other end, Esther Laborde attempted a direct free-kick, but her shot was saved by the Espanyol goalkeeper. Before half-time, the referee disallowed Anita Marcos's second goal for offside, and Romane Salvador prevented a goal from Marina Rivas. After the break, Sánchez Vera made a change, bringing on Natasa Andonova. The home side pressed on in attack, looking to break the deadlock.

Madrid CFF pushed forward with a long ball for Melgard's run, but Romane Salvador remained very alert to gather the ball. Indeed, the French goalkeeper made a magnificent save, blocking a Mônica Hickmann shot from inside the box with her foot. The home side poured forward, and Anita Marcos was close to scoring with a header that went over the crossbar. Sara Monforte brought on Ángeles del Álamo, and Sánchez Vera introduced Bárbara López to gain more attacking presence. Indeed, Hildur Antonsdottir was close to scoring with a high shot. Anita Marcos also sought a goal with an off-target shot, and Romane Salvador caught a Mônica Hickmann header. The crossbar also denied Nerea Sánchez a goal, as she couldn't break the deadlock in a match that ended in a draw.
