LigaF and the Paulista Federation strengthen their alliance to boost women's football

The São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) has spent a week developing an extensive work agenda in Madrid and Barcelona alongside LigaF and some of its clubs, as part of the collaboration agreement signed by both entities to jointly drive the growth, professionalisation, and international projection of women's football.

28 OCT 2026

The Brazilian delegation was headed by the president of the FPF, Reinaldo Carneiro; its vice-president, Mauro Silva; and the director of Women's Football, Kin Saito, accompanied by directors and representatives from various clubs in São Paulo football and Petrobras, a company that maintains a major partnership with the FPF for the development of its women's football competitions and projects.

This visit represents a new step in the partnership signed last August in São Paulo by LigaF and the Paulista Football Federation, which established a cooperation framework aimed at the exchange of knowledge and best practices in various areas, including technical and administrative training, internationalisation, institutional development, social impact projects, research, and technical visits. Both organisations agreed at the time to work together to identify projects and solutions that help accelerate the development of women's football in Spain and Brazil.

Immersion in the LigaF model

Under the concept of an immersion in Spanish professional women's football, the delegation was able to experience first-hand how LigaF operates, its evolution since the inception of the professional competition, and the various departments that currently make up its structure.
Throughout the various sessions held at the LigaF headquarters, professionals from the organisation covered issues related to the history and development of the competition, commercial strategy, legal framework and governance, competition management, brand building and positioning, and the fan experience.

The training also moved to the pitch with a Matchday experience during the LigaF fixture between Atlético de Madrid and Madrid CFF, which allowed members of the delegation to see from the inside the operations and coordination required to organise a professional competition match.

The programme also provided the Brazilian delegation with a closer look at different management models within LigaF clubs themselves. In Barcelona, the delegation completed a two-day immersion with FC Barcelona, where they gained deeper insight into its business model and commercial strategy, as well as its organisational and women's football management structure. The agenda also included a visit to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper to see first-hand the work the club carries out around its senior women's team.

Back in Madrid, Atlético de Madrid welcomed the delegation to their Alcalá de Henares Sports City to share the evolution of their women's project from its origins to its current sporting and commercial development, in addition to their marketing and positioning strategy, as well as hearing the players' perspective.

The day was rounded off with a session given by Sandro Arrufat, board member of Costa Adeje Tenerife, dedicated to breaking down the Canarian side's model as an independent women's club, thereby broadening the perspective on the different structures that currently coexist within LigaF.

This diversity of experiences has allowed the Paulista delegation to gain a cross-cutting overview of Spanish professional women's football, combining the work carried out by LigaF as the competition organiser with the reality and different management models of its clubs.

A partnership with Brazil 2027 on the horizon

The visit once again highlights the excellent rapport between LigaF and the Paulista Football Federation and the desire of both organisations to turn the institutional agreement into concrete projects, knowledge generation, and new opportunities for women's football.
The partnership also takes on a special dimension given the scenario facing Brazil in the coming months with the staging of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027, which will take place between 24 June and 25 July. Brazil will host a women's World Cup for the first time, and São Paulo will be one of its eight host cities, at a particularly relevant moment to continue strengthening the structures, visibility, and legacy of Brazilian women's football.

The working week in Spain thus consolidates the bridge initiated in São Paulo between LigaF and the Paulista Football Federation, sharing the conviction of this international exchange with a long-term vision and two-way concept: sharing knowledge, training professionals, creating synergies between organisations and clubs, and learning to work together to help build an increasingly professional, sustainable, and globally competitive women's footballing landscape.
