After securing the Supercopa de España and being crowned champions of Liga F Moeve, FC Barcelona continues its journey in the UEFA Women's Champions League as they look to reach the final. Pere Romeu’s side finished the group stage in 1st place with 16 points after securing five wins and just one draw, while also finishing as the highest-scoring team this season with 32 goals and the side that has conceded the fewest, with five. In the quarter-finals, the Catalan outfit overcame Real Madrid CF with a 12-2 aggregate score to reach their eighth consecutive semi-final in the top European competition, a record-breaking feat. Furthermore, the Blaugranas can also boast of having qualified in their last nineteen two-legged knockout ties.
The reigning runners-up have reached the final on six occasions and have managed to lift the trophy three times (2020-2021, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024). In fact, the Catalan side has contested every final of the last seven editions bar one. The Catalan coach will be without Aitana Bonmatí and Laia Aleixandri, who is suffering from an ACL injury and will miss the remainder of the campaign. Ewa Pajor, who has 7 goals this season, and Alexia Putellas, who has been involved in the most goals with 7 assists and 5 strikes, will both be available. Standing in their way is Bayern de Múnich, leaders of the Bundesliga with twenty wins and just one draw, who finished the group stage in 4th place in the table with four wins, one draw, and one defeat.
In the knockout stages, the German side overcame Manchester United with a 5-3 aggregate score in the quarter-finals. The team managed by José Barcala, the Spanish coach of the German side, has only lost one of their last sixteen home matches in the UEFA Women's Champions League (twelve wins and three draws), and they have also won their last two home matches in UEFA competitions against Spanish teams. Both sides already met on the opening matchday, which ended in a 7-1 victory for the Catalan side. The two teams have faced each other on four other occasions, with one win for the German club and three for the Blaugranas. The return leg will be played on Sunday, 3 May at 16:30 at the Camp Nou, with a ticket to the final at stake.
