A defined squad, though with several new faces. Sonia Bermúdez has announced the squad for the two friendly matches against the United States. “These are two matches where we will test ourselves to see what level we are at,” the national team coach began in a press conference. The first of these two matches will be played on Saturday, October 10, at 20:30h (Spanish time) at Audi Field in Washington D.C., while the second fixture for La Roja will be in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, at 01:00h (Spanish time) at Subaru Park in Pennsylvania. A double header of the highest demand to begin preparations for the 2027 Brazil World Cup. The forward from Real Sociedad, Ainhoa Marín, is the main new addition to the 25-player squad. 

The Catalan winger, who previously played for Spain's youth teams, could make her senior debut. “We want to see players. Every time we make a squad list, it’s very difficult because there's so much quality,” the national team coach continued regarding the new faces, and especially, the presence of the forward, who has scored 9 goals and provided 11 assists in her last two seasons in Liga F Moeve at Deportivo Abanca. Meanwhile, Oihane Hernández (Orlando Pride), Clara Pinedo (Athletic Club), and Ornella Vignola (Everton) also return to the national squad. The players left out from the last squad are Jana Fernández, Esther González, Olga Carmona, and Aitana Bonmatí, who has just returned from a long injury.

“Of the four matches Spain has played against the United States, only one has been won. The future is Brazil, but these are two clashes to see where we stand,” noted Sonia Bermúdez. Both national teams have faced each other four times. The North American team won 0-1 in a friendly in 2019, triumphed 1-2 in the 2019 World Cup round of 16, and again won 1-0 in another friendly in 2020. The streak was broken on October 11, 2022, almost four years ago, when El Sadar witnessed La Roja's first 2-0 victory against what was then the FIFA ranking's number 1 team. Goals from Laia Codina and Esther González decided the match. Now, Sonia Bermúdez's side occupies the top spot in the ranking, followed by the American team.
