The points were shared between Real Madrid CF and Manchester City on matchday two of the UEFA Women's Champions League league phase. Real Madrid took to the pitch with the clear intention of claiming all three points right from the whistle, and Schröder came close to opening the scoring after nicking the ball back just twenty seconds in. Rose also threatened, heading against the crossbar. Schröder once again went close after pouncing on a rebound from a Caruso shot that struck the English defence, but it was Linda Caicedo who broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark, firing past the home goalkeeper to make it 0-1 after receiving a neat pass from Andreia Jacinto. The Whites welcomed the goal as they headed into the break with the lead.

After the restart, the Citizens reacted and took just six minutes to restore parity at 1-1. An error playing out from the back by the Whites paved the way for Khadija Shaw to level the scores, curling home a clinical shot after latching onto an assist from Yui Hasegawa. Past the hour mark, both sides made changes. Sara Däbritz, Beerensteyn and Keukelaar entered the pitch for the visitors. Linda Caicedo came close to grabbing her second, but was denied by Yamashita, who also pulled off a fine save to keep out a good effort from Irune Dorado. In the closing stages, Signe Bruun made her return to action having been sidelined since 8 February, and Silvia Cristóbal scored a stunning goal right at the death, only for the referee to pull it back after blowing the whistle before the defender struck the ball.
