Breaking their own history. SD Eibar have kicked off the 2026/2027 season, their fourth consecutive in the top flight, with record-breaking numbers. The 'Armeras' went into the international break in 5th position with 11 points, accumulated from three wins against RCD Espanyol (1-0), Athletic Club (1-0) and Sevilla FC (0-1), two draws against Real Madrid CF (0-0) and Granada CF (0-0), and just one defeat against FC Badalona Women (1-4). Seven points more than they had at this stage last season, marking their best historical start in Liga F Moeve. “We have taken those steps to continue consolidating the Liga F project and to provide the players, on a daily basis, with the necessities of professional football,” stated Rocío Candal, the sporting director of the 'Armeras' team, after the close of a transfer window where she made eleven signings.

SD Eibar have also opted to maintain last season's core. After securing survival, Iñaki Goikoetxea has remained in charge. Andrea Suárez, former Real Oviedo coach, joined as an assistant, complementing the staff. Furthermore, eight players have remained from the previous season: Laura Martí, Carla Andrés, Mireia Masegur, Alimata Bélem, who will move to Washington Spirit in winter on a permanent transfer, Adela Rico, Carmen Álvarez, Sara Martín and Emma Moreno, who is on loan again from Atlético de Madrid. The eleven signings have come from three main markets. “One is Primera RFEF, players who come with the ambition of reaching Liga F, then footballers who have already experienced seasons in the top flight, and finally, the foreign market,” stated Rocío Candal, who noted that “the most important thing is to create a competitive squad.”

Defensive Solidity as a Hallmark

One of SD Eibar's keys is their defensive solidity, with a five-player defensive line consisting of three centre-backs and two wing-backs. However, one name stands out above the rest: Anna Wellmann. The 31-year-old goalkeeper arrived at the 'Armeras' team last summer on loan from Bayern de Múnich. She became the undisputed starter from the first match, and in these first six matchdays, she has made 25 interventions, 16 of them from inside the box, making her the goalkeeper with the most saves this season in Liga F Moeve, with 4.16 per match. The shot-stopper has kept 5 clean sheets, becoming the goalkeeper who has shut out her goal the most times. With an 86% save percentage, the German goalkeeper has conceded only 4 goals in these first six league matchdays, being undisputed between the sticks and conceding just 0.7 goals per game.

Only surpassed by Cata Coll, who has a percentage of 0.5 goals conceded in four matches. Her excellent performances between the sticks benefit the entire team. The goalkeeper has managed to prevent a total of 1.37 goals per match, making Eibar the team with the most goals saved in the competition. However, the goalkeeper is also supported by a solid defensive line. The 'Armeras' team, with 29.8 clearances per match, is the team that clears the most balls this season. Furthermore, Alimata Bélem has 31 clearances and 9 interceptions in Liga F Moeve, while captain Carla Andrés has blocked 9 opposition shots and Simona Botero 5. Meanwhile, Mireia Masegur cleared 14 balls in the 0-0 draw against Real Madrid CF, a record this season in the championship. This defensive security is the identity of a team where defensive commitment is key.
