Clubs are beginning to find their footing after Matchday 2

After the second matchday of competition, FC Badalona leads Group A with six points, while FC Barcelona and Levante UD share the top position in Group B with six points each. Meanwhile, there is a tie on four points in Group C between Athletic Club and RCD Espanyol.

Friday 12 June 18:00h Athletic Club 1 - RCD Espanyol 1

Both teams arrived at the match with a perfect winning record, though the Bilbao side sat top on goal difference. Three minutes in, Daniella Ruiz pressed high and was rewarded with the opening goal. The 'Pericos' kept pushing, but Olatz Vicente remained imperious to prevent a second. As the match progressed, Athletic Club grew into the game, and Lucía Arrizabalaga went close to doubling the lead, though she lacked composure in front of goal. The Catalan side held firm at the back, but just before the break, it was Lucía Arrizabalaga who unleashed a powerful strike to level the scores.



In the second half, Athletic Club, buoyed by their equaliser, started stronger, looking to press high and create dangerous chances. For their part, Joan Caubet’s side continued to threaten, though the 'Rojiblanca' defence held firm to contain their rival's attacks. The tension was palpable, and Olatz Vicente made a confident save from a good Aina Ferrer shot inside the box. The contest remained perfectly balanced, with neither side able to find a winner. Friday 12 June 18:30h DUX Logroño 1 - Real Sociedad 3

The first chance of the match fell to the San Sebastián side. A thunderous strike from Iara González crashed against the woodwork. The rebound fell to a Real Sociedad player, but Alba Molina remained alert to collect the ball comfortably. Real Sociedad kept pushing and found the opener through Mila Mesplie, who pinched the ball high up the pitch and beat the Riojan goalkeeper to break the deadlock. DUX Logroño looked to respond through Vera Galilea, while Alejandra Reinares also threatened. The final chance of the first half was a direct free-kick that the 'Txuri-urdin' goalkeeper gathered with ease.



Just after the second forty-five minutes got underway, a cross into the box from Catalina Scarcella was fumbled by the Real Sociedad goalkeeper, and Lina Quakil was on hand to pounce and fire the ball into the back of the net. Parity was restored. The Basque side looked dangerous from set-pieces, while DUX Logroño also had their moments, with a Lina Quakil shot narrowly missing the target. Victoria García made a fine save from distance, though the goalkeeper could do nothing to stop a powerful strike from Nora Peregrina. The striker made no mistake, netting her brace to seal the 1-3 victory.

Group A


Both teams were looking for their first win of the group stage. Two minutes in, Ainhoa Iona opened the scoring for the 'Rojiblanca' side. Deportivo Abanca looked to Iris Ríos for a response, but to no avail. Carla García conceded a corner after a strong strike from the Madrid side, who doubled their lead in the following play through Raquel Arranz. Both teams continued to push for more goals. The Galician side tested the keeper through Isabela Maroño, who fired in a tame shot, while the Madrid club also sought to extend their lead, but the Deportivo goalkeeper came out bravely to clear the danger.



In the second half, Atlético de Madrid went on the attack in search of a third, which they found through Lara Blázquez, who joined the 'Colchonera' party. The 'Rojiblancas' pushed for a fourth, but Andrea Martínez made a magnificent intervention to avert the danger and concede a corner. Despite the scoreline, Deportivo Abanca kept trying, only to be met by the superb reflexes of the Madrid goalkeeper, who flew to clear a dangerous effort with a wonderful save. Gretta Suárez also made a fine save from outside the area to deny the Galician side, who were left without a goal.

Samuel López's side also had a chance through Daniela Belinchón, but lacked luck in front of goal. Once again, Julia Muñoz tested the Catalan goalkeeper with a strike from distance. FC Badalona Women also looked for the breakthrough, though without creating clear-cut chances. Leia Jurado had to fly to save a long-range effort from the Madrid side, who kept pushing but could not breach the opposition goal.



After the restart, FC Badalona Women found the net through Amalia Garewal, who beat the Madrid goalkeeper with a powerful low strike. The Catalan side grew in confidence and nearly added a second through Juliet Ye. For their part, Madrid CFF tried to react by looking for Noa Jiménez, who attempted to bypass the Catalan defence, which was well-organised at the back. In attack, Amalia Garewal struck again to complete her brace and extend her team's lead. Samuel López’s side tried to narrow the deficit in the final stages, but Leila Jurado made a great one-on-one save to keep a clean sheet in the tournament.

Group B


Both teams took to the pitch in search of a goal. Levante UD threatened early on, and it was Daniela Rodríguez who had the first major chance of the match with a direct free-kick that sailed over the bar. The reply was swift, with a tame shot from Julia Yanes that the 'Granota' goalkeeper gathered easily. Levante were close to scoring with a header from Lucía Marín that went just inches over the bar. Costa Adeje Tenerife also tried to find the elusive goal, but the score remained unchanged at the end of the first forty-five minutes, heading to the break at 0-0.



In the second half, the 'Granota' side pushed for the goal and went close through Valentina Gaspar, but her shot went high. At the second time of asking, Levante UD succeeded. Suhaila Pérez unleashed a magnificent strike to open the scoring. The goal forced the Tenerife side to push forward, but it was the Levante club that came close to doubling their lead, albeit without luck. The match remained open, and Costa Adeje Tenerife went close with an attempt at an 'Olympic goal' that struck the bar, much to the relief of the Canary side. The final whistle confirmed the victory for Álvaro Patón’s side, who move to six points, both with clean sheets.

Friday 12 June 20:30h FC Barcelona 2 - Sevilla FC 1

Just seconds after the referee blew for kick-off, Valentina García pressed the Sevilla goalkeeper to force an error and fire the ball into the back of the net. 0-1 at the Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios. The Seville side looked to redeem themselves but could not find gaps in the 'Azulgrana' defence. For their part, Pablo Álvarez's side insisted through Coral García, who looked for a second, while Martina Azpilicueta also tried her luck. The final chance of the first half fell to Aina Fillat, with a great run into the box that the Sevilla defence cleared for a corner.



In the second half, Sevilla FC tried their luck from a set-piece with a direct free-kick, but the ball sailed over the bar to the relief of the 'Blaugrana' side. FC Barcelona searched for a second with a long-range strike from Valentina García that the bench claimed had crossed the line, but the referee did not award the goal. However, a few minutes later, Valentina García completed her brace. The Seville side had not said their final word and reduced the deficit, but there was no time left to equalise. With this result, the 'Culés' move to six points, while the Sevilla side will look for their first win tomorrow.
