The Galician side has officially announced the arrival of Alberto Rodríguez as the new head coach of Deportivo Abanca for the 2026/2027 Liga F Moeve season. Having served as Fran Alonso's assistant coach since January 2025, he now takes the reins of the first team to lead a renewed project.

A change in direction for the Deportivo Abanca dugout ahead of the 2026/2027 Liga F Moeve season. Following the announcement of Fran Alonso's departure in April, the Galician side began their search for a new head coach and have ultimately decided on Alberto Rodríguez. The Galician manager had previously taken sole charge of Sofán and Sigüeiro, both in men's football. Since arriving at Abegondo in January 2025, he worked on Fran Alonso's coaching staff as an assistant, and this year he will make the step up to head coach, thanks to his extensive knowledge of the club's structure and the Galician squad. Furthermore, the Arteixo-born coach becomes the fifth manager in the history of the blue-and-white side.

The Galician club was founded in 2016 and reached the Primera División in just three years under head coach Manu Sánchez. Following his departure, Miguel Llorente, Irene Ferreras, and Fran Alonso took the reins of the Deportivista dugout. It was under the Madrid-born coach that the Galician side secured safety in their first year and confirmed their continuity in Liga F Moeve for a third consecutive season, a record in the club's history. This coming campaign, Alberto Rodríguez faces an even greater challenge: ensuring the Deportivo Abanca project continues to grow in the elite and improving the Herculino side's results in the top flight, with a completely revamped squad that is undergoing many changes across all positions during this summer transfer window.

A completely revamped team

In this transfer window, Deportivo Abanca has undergone a squad restructuring following the departure of fourteen players from last year. Meanwhile, the Galician side has announced the contract renewals of Merle Barth and Esperanza Pizarro, as well as those of youth team players Lucía Rivas, Paula Redruello 'Redru', and Paula Novo, who will now be part of the first-team squad. Marisa García will continue on a permanent deal, while, to date, the blue-and-white side has announced four new signings for the upcoming season: Andrea Tarazona (Levante UD), Vega Montesinos (Alhama CF ElPozo), Eva Alonso (Levante UD), and Daniela Caracas (RCD Espanyol).
