The Athletic Club players wore their mothers' names on their shirts for the match. Furthermore, they took a photo with them ahead of the clash. These two initiatives were held to mark Mother's Day, which was celebrated on 3 May. During the initial team photo, the players posed with a banner featuring the slogan 'Ehunetan', the motto of the 33rd Basque public school festival. The first chance fell to the visitors. A cross into the box led to a series of clearances, with the ball eventually falling to Paula Gutiérrez, who unleashed a long-range shot that went well wide. The visitors continued to press, with a great through ball for Ainhoa Marín. The winger broke into the box and tried her luck with a shot, but Adriana Nanclares gathered the ball at the second attempt to deny the attacker. The Basque side also threatened with a powerful strike from Maitane Vilariño that sailed over the bar.

Inês Pereira was also very alert. The Portuguese goalkeeper dealt with a dangerous cross-shot that was close to creeping in. The final two chances before the break fell to Athletic Club. First, Maite Valero had a header that went wide, and just a few minutes later, Daniela Agote tried her luck with a shot that the visiting goalkeeper tipped behind for a corner. The second half followed the same script as the first, with Athletic Club searching for a goal but without success. Once again, a lively Daniela Agote used her pace to break away and delivered a cross to the back post for Ane Elexpuru, but the full-back's effort went over the crossbar. In the 55th minute, Vera Martínez played a ball in from the wing, finding Bárbara Latorre, who was named MVP of the match. The attacker used her speed to beat her markers and played a pass for Ainhoa Marín to score.

Deportivo Abanca took the lead at Lezama. Following the goal, Javier Lerga made a substitution, bringing on Jone Amezaga to try and generate more danger in attack. The Bilbao side pushed forward with shots that went wide, but they were unable to find the breakthrough. The home coach also brought on Nerea Nevado, Patri Zugasti, and Clara Pinedo. It was a triple substitution in search of at least an equaliser, but none of the three players managed to create significant danger against an Inês Pereira who looked very secure between the sticks. For their part, the Deportivo Abanca defence remained very solid at the back to keep a clean sheet and return to winning ways in the domestic competition. With this victory, Fran Alonso's side sit in 11th place in Liga F Moeve with 30 points, while Athletic Club round off the top eight of the standings with 38 points.
